1. Who runs the challenge
The challenge is run by Tranquility Pages Inc., the registered owner and publisher of the Scripture Brain app, an Alberta corporation (the "Sponsor"). All questions, requests and notices go to the Sponsor by email at [email protected].
2. What these rules cover
These rules apply to every public Bible memory challenge in the Scripture Brain app. Each challenge has its own listing in the app (the "Challenge Listing") that shows:
- the challenge name and calendar month,
- the challenge time zone,
- the finals date and start time,
- the prize, its value, and how it is paid.
The Challenge Listing is part of these rules. If the listing and these rules disagree, these rules win, except for the prize description, where the listing wins.
3. Free to enter
- Entry is free. You never have to buy anything to enter, play, or win.
- Scripture Brain Pro (the paid subscription) gives no advantage. Challenge verses do not use your free verse slots, every player gets the same verses in the same translation, and points come only from practice that is open to everyone.
- Normal data or carrier charges from your provider may apply.
4. Who can win a prize
Prizes are open to players 18 or older who live in the United States (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), Canada (except Quebec), Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, or Trinidad and Tobago; the app limits joining to those places, and the winner confirms their age and place of residence before a prize is sent (section 10). Void where prohibited.
- Players aged 13 to 17 can play with a parent's or guardian's permission, but cannot receive a prize. Children under 13 cannot join.
- Employees and contractors of the Sponsor, and their immediate families and households, cannot receive a prize.
- If a winner cannot receive a prize, it goes to the next eligible finalist (section 9).
5. How to enter
- Open the challenge in the Scripture Brain app and tap Join.
- Enter the name you want on the leaderboard (we ask for your first name and last initial, for example "Grace M."), your email, and your age range, and accept these rules.
- Confirm your email with the 6-digit code we send you.
One entry per person. Use only one account and one email. You may join at any time during the challenge month; verses already unlocked are waiting for you.
6. How the month works
- A challenge lasts one calendar month. Days run from midnight to midnight in the challenge time zone.
- One new verse unlocks each day.
- You earn points only by practicing challenge verses in two stages that the app checks itself:
- From memory (typing the verse with nothing shown, including the standalone typing drill): up to 20 points.
- First letters only: up to 10 points.
- Points scale with accuracy. Nothing is earned under 60 percent accuracy.
- Each verse earns points at most once a day in each of the two stages, so a verse is worth at most 30 points a day. The standalone typing drill counts as From memory and shares its once-a-day count. An attempt under 60 percent does not use it up, so you can try again.
- There is no daily points cap: practicing every unlocked verse every day keeps adding points, so steady practice beats cramming.
- No other activity earns challenge points: no bonuses for streaks, mastery, or other drills.
- Points stop when finals check-in opens, 15 minutes before the finals start. Because finals are held Monday to Thursday, this can be the day before the month's last day.
- Practice done before points stop but uploaded later (for example, because your phone was offline) still counts until the finalists are selected. After that, the leaderboard does not change.
- The leaderboard is public to all entrants for the whole challenge.
Finalists. The 10 players with the most points when points stop are the finalists. If the Challenge Listing sets a minimum number of mastered verses, only players who meet it can be finalists. Ties on the leaderboard, including for 10th place, are broken first by average From memory speed: the time per word over your scored From memory attempts, as recorded by the app. The faster player ranks higher, and a player with no timed attempt ranks below those with one. If that is also tied, the player who reached the tied score first ranks higher, then the player who entered first.
7. Finals
Finals run automatically in the app. No staff or venue is involved.
- When: the weekday (Monday to Thursday) closest to the end of the month, at the evening time shown in the Challenge Listing, in the challenge time zone. The app shows the date from day one.
- Check-in: finalists check in during the 15 minutes before the start. If you have not checked in when the first round starts, you are out of the finals. Check-in is tied to the device you check in on: only leaving the app on that device forfeits.
- Stay in the app: from check-in until your last round ends, leaving the app (putting it in the background) forfeits. Pulling down a notification or control panel does not count. You will be warned before finals and reminded on screen.
- Verses: for each round, the Sponsor's server draws a verse at random from that month's challenge verses that have unlocked by the finals date. Nobody sees it before the round starts.
Round 1 (all finalists). Everyone races on the same verse in the verse tile game. The top 4 advance. If your connection drops for a moment, the race does not end early while you are briefly away.
Semifinal (4 players, two pairs). Each player types a verse from memory with nothing filled in. The reference is shown only when the round starts. Higher accuracy wins; if accuracy is tied, the faster time wins. The winner of each pair advances.
Final (2 players). Like the semifinal, but with two verses. The winner is the champion. If both players are exactly tied on accuracy and time, the player ranked higher in round 1 (or on the leaderboard, if round 1 was not needed) wins.
The bracket and results are shown live to everyone during finals.
8. This is a game of skill
Winners are decided by skill (memorizing and accurately recalling Bible verses), not by chance. The only random element is which month's verse is drawn for a finals round, and every player in that round gets the same verse. Your chance of winning depends on your own practice and on how many others take part.
9. Prizes
- Each challenge has one prize, for the champion. The prize, its approximate value, and how it is paid are described in the Challenge Listing.
- The prize is sent by Interac e-Transfer to winners in Canada and by PayPal to winners elsewhere, unless the Challenge Listing says otherwise, within 30 days after the winner confirms eligibility (section 10).
- Prizes cannot be transferred, exchanged, or turned into cash, except that the Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the stated prize becomes unavailable.
- The winner is responsible for any taxes on the prize.
If the champion cannot receive the prize (not eligible, does not respond within 7 days, does not confirm eligibility, or is disqualified), the prize goes to the runner-up (the other player in the final). If the runner-up cannot receive it either, it goes to the next finalists in finals order: the semifinal losers (higher accuracy first, then faster time), then the remaining finalists in their Round 1 order. After that, it goes to any remaining eligible finalists in leaderboard order. Every finalist may be tried in this order; if none can receive the prize, it may go unawarded. Each alternate has the same 7 days to respond.
10. Winner verification
We email the potential winner at the address on the entry. Within 7 days after that email, they must reply and:
- confirm in writing that they are 18 or older and live in one of the places listed in section 4,
- confirm that the account the prize will be sent to (Interac e-Transfer or PayPal) uses the email address or phone number they gave us, and
- if a resident of Canada: correctly answer, without help, a mathematical skill-testing question that we send by email, within the time stated in that email.
We do not ask for, collect, or keep identity documents. The Sponsor may decline to award the prize if it reasonably believes a statement in the reply is false.
What we collect to send the prize. We never ask for payment details when you join. Once you are a finalist in a challenge with a prize, the app asks only where to send the prize if you win: an email address or mobile number for Interac e-Transfer (in Canada), or a PayPal email address (elsewhere). Giving it is optional but makes paying a winner faster. It is used only to send the prize. Only the Sponsor sees it; it is never shown on a leaderboard or website, and it is deleted 90 days after the challenge's prize is paid.
If the potential winner does not reply and confirm within 7 days, the prize is forfeited and goes to the next eligible finalist (section 9).
11. Fair play
These will disqualify you, and may remove your points or results:
- more than one entry or account per person, or playing for someone else,
- bots, scripts, automation, or any tool that types or reads verses for you,
- pasting text, using a second device, notes, or another person's help during finals,
- collusion with other players,
- tampering with the app, the servers, the scoring, or the network traffic,
- false information on your entry, or abusive or offensive leaderboard names.
The Sponsor may review play data and verify any entry at any time, and may disqualify any player it reasonably believes broke these rules. The Sponsor's decisions on all challenge matters are final.
12. Privacy and what is shown publicly
- Your personal information is handled under the Scripture Brain Privacy Policy: https://scripturebrain.app/privacy/.
- Your email is never shown publicly.
- The leaderboard, the finals bracket, and results show your leaderboard name (first name and last initial) and the avatar or photo you chose, if any. They are visible in the app and on the public web page at scripturebrain.app/live.
- Leaderboard names must be appropriate. Names that are offensive, or that other players report, may be shown as "Player", and the Sponsor may remove the entry.
- Publicity: by accepting a prize, the winner agrees that the Sponsor may use their first name, last initial, and country, and the fact that they won, in the app, on its website, and in announcements, without further payment, except where the law forbids this.
13. Releases and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- By entering, you release the Sponsor, Apple Inc., Google LLC, and their officers, employees, and agents from any claim related to the challenge or a prize.
- The Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, or garbled data, network or device failures, app crashes, power or connection loss, or incorrect information, unless caused by its own gross negligence.
- The Sponsor's total liability is limited to the value of the prize.
Nothing in these rules limits rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the place where you live.
14. Changes and problems
Before a challenge starts. If something outside the Sponsor's control (for example a change in the law, an app store decision, or a widespread service outage) makes it impossible to run a challenge fairly, the Sponsor may change or cancel that challenge before it starts.
During finals. If a technical failure, fraud, or anything outside the Sponsor's control affects the fairness or running of the finals, the Sponsor may reschedule the affected round or the whole finals. If rescheduling is not reasonably possible, the prize is awarded according to the month's final leaderboard standings, among the eligible finalists who were not disqualified. The Sponsor's decisions are final.
Any change will be posted in the app. The Sponsor may update these rules for future challenges; the rules in effect when a challenge starts apply to that challenge.
15. Governing law
These rules are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, except where the law of your place of residence requires otherwise. Any dispute about the challenge or these rules will be decided by the courts of Alberta, except where the law of your place of residence gives you the right to go to the courts there. There is no arbitration.
16. Winners list
To get the name of a challenge winner (first name, last initial, and country), email [email protected] within 60 days after the finals, with the challenge name in the subject line.
